My Effects on The World or Other People

I would say that my effects on other people are that I encouraged them that even if your blind and deaf you can do a lot of things. Also I believe that I showed that it's very hard, but capable to communicate and learn when you are both blind and deaf. Lastly, I convinced people to believe in themselves, and to make you believe that anything is possible.

Special or Interesting Facts About my Life

Some interesting things about me that I can recall is that one I loved the ocean my whole life. That means that I loved the ocean before and after my illness. Second, I was very intelligent. I even made hand signs to show what I wanted before Teacher came. The last one for right now is how I learned how to write both Braille and English. It was hard but I succeeded.

Obstacles

If I had to choose three obstacles that have shaped or changed my life I would have to say that first, my illness which that made me blind and deaf was a big obstacle. I had to learn sign language to speak with someone. I also learned how to read and write Braille, and I learned how to write English.
Another obstacle that shaped my life was when I went to go see Laura Bridgeman who was a Perkins resident and nearly fifty-nine years old. I approached her and she gave me a kiss. I tried to touch her face, but she moved away she told Teacher that she did not teach me to be very gentle. I couldn't think of what else to do so I sat on the floor; and right away she yanked me up and reminded me not to dirty my dress. When I left I went to give her a kiss but instead I trampled her toes. She was a cold, old, motionless woman.
For the third obstacle that shaped my life was when my father died August 19, 1896. I was overwhelmed with grief. "My father is dead!” she wrote in a letter to Bell. "My own dear loving father! Oh, my dear friend, how shall I bear it! . . . I never knew how dearly I loved my father until I had realized I lost him." I had tried to go to the funeral, but my mother told me not to come. I had felt rejected.

Book Review

This book, Helen Keller Rebellious Spirit, was a good book. It gave a lot of information. Probably too much then I needed. It gave a lot of details which was good and bad. This was good because then I knew what was going on at the time. It was also bad because to me it didn't really stay on topic very well. I liked how the book gave great facts and had a timeline, but I would probably not read another book by this author.

Character Traits

Words I would use to describe myself would be...
stubborn: most of the time I got my way-when people told me to do something that I didn't want to do I didn't do it. I did this mostly in my childhood.
Positive: I don't think much about the negative side of things in life plus, why think negative? You can always find something positive.
Loving: I remember the time I got mad at my little sister because she was eating a letter I had written, so I grabbed the letter out of her mouth; I felt really bad because she was crying, so I made her a different paper that she could eat. I can't stand when people are upset.
Blind& deaf: I got really sick when I was just two years old, and became blind and deaf.
Those are only some of many words I would describe myself as.
